KATE SIESS OF
OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a sophomore on the
women’s tennis team from St. Paul, Minn., has been has been
selected the SCAC Character & Community Female
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending March 18, 2012.
Siess is not only one of Coach Howell’s most
valuable players, she’s also an outstanding citizen in the
Oglethorpe community. She spends extensive time performing
volunteer work, including serving as a mentor for an eighth grade
student prepping for college as well as spending over 200 hours
working at various service projects coordinated by
Oglethorpe’s Center for Civic Engagement.
In addition, Siess started a Pen Pal program
between the students at Oglethorpe and students at a local middle
school. Currently, she coordinates 20 Oglethorpe students who write
to 20 different PATH Academy Middle School students on a weekly
basis in hopes of helping the middle school students with their
reading and writing skills.
Siess is an excellent student that is a member of
the Dean’s List with her 3.86 GPA and she currently serves as
Oglethorpe’s student-athlete representative on the university
search committee for a new athletic director.
