JESSICA
THORNTON OF
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN COLLEGE, a junior captain
on the women's cross country team from Huntsville, Ala., has been
selected the SCAC Character & Community Female
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending September 18,
2011.
Thornton, a member of Beta Beta Beta (a Biology
Honor Society), tutors students at Bush Hills Academy and has
participated in the LEAD program, a social-change model of
leadership for first-year students at BSC.
She was also a Teaching Assistant for Biology Professor Dr. Wayne
Shew.
In addition, Thornton is involved in Habitat for
Humanity and a local event for elementary schools called the
“Owl Prowl”, in which students come to campus and
interact with student-athletes.
