Sharwil Bell, Rhodes College, Women's Basketball

SHARWIL BELL OF RHODES COLLEGE, a senior guard on the women's basketball team from Memphis, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending January 1, 2012.

A 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-American, Bell has been a big asset to the Lynx on and off the floor. Last season she volunteered at Methodist LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, The Delta Rehab Center and the Memphis Multiple Sclerosis Society. Bell has also been a member of the Black Students Association and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Bell has demonstrated outstanding self-discipline by maintaining a 3.97 overall grade point average.  She has been a three-year starter in women’s basketball after transferring to Rhodes at the beginning of her sophomore year. The last two seasons she has served as a captain and in 2010-11 she was named First team All-SCAC and was a D3hoops.com pre-season Fourth Team All-American.
