NATALIE
NELMS OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior
on the women's soccer team from Dallas, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Character & Community Female
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending November 13,
2011.
Nelms, in addition to being an All-Conference
selection each of her first two seasons and being named a captain
by her teammates this year, has also been actively involved in the
Austin College community.
Nelms is a member of the Alpha Phi Omega service
fraternity on campus, having joined in the fall of 2010, and now
serves as the Historian Officer within the group. She was also an
Austin College Experience leader in April, working with all
incoming freshmen and prospects on visits to campus.
This fall Nelms spearheaded an event with Team In
Training for a Give Cancer the Boot fundraiser, helping to
raise money to fight Leukemia. Through her outstanding
efforts, the women’s soccer team joined forces with the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help raise awareness and funds for
research and patient research in the team’s home finale
against Southwestern on Oct. 30.
