THERESA
WOHLDMANN OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a
junior outside hitter on the women's volleyball team from
Florissant, Mo., has been selected the SCAC Character &
Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending
December 4, 2011.
Wohldmann is a force on both the volleyball
court and in her community. As a three-year letter-winner,
she holds the school record for kills in a season with 496 in
2010.
In 2010, Wohldmann was selected as the Association
of Division III Independents’ (AD3I) Co-Player of the Year,
as well as a first team United States Collegiate Athletic
Association (USCAA) All-American. As a freshman in
2009, she was selected as the AD3I Rookie of the Year.
Despite only appearing in 28 matches due to injury in 2011, Wohldmann led the team offensively with 326 kills (4th in the USCAA) and a 3.13 kills-per-set average to go along with 39 serving aces, third best for the Lady Crusaders. She also excels defensively, collecting a team third-best 278 digs, and is second-best with 2.67 digs-per-set .
Beyond her athletic accomplishments, Wohldmann is dedicated to serving the communities around her, either at home or while at school. While on summer and Christmas vacations, she has volunteered at TEAM, a local food pantry for families in need.
Wohldmann also serves as a leader for her parish youth group for high school teens. She found special enjoyment summer 2011, when she and a fellow University of Dallas volleyball player Danielle Fuchs volunteered for a ‘Back 2 School’ event in St. Louis, which provided underprivileged children with school supplies and clothing for the new school year. Wohldmann also shares her volleyball knowledge with youth, teaching basic volleyball skills at a youth clinic.
Wohldmann brings her commitment to service to school as an officer and member of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity. Through this organization, she has planted trees, sent Christmas cards to soldiers in Iraq, and volunteered during the University of Dallas’ Charity Week. Even while in Rome for a study-abroad semester, Wohldmann volunteered at a Missionaries of Charity soup kitchen near St. Peter’s Basilica.
