ERIN
WAINWRIGHT OF
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN COLLEGE, a junior
guard on the women's basketball team from Hoover, Ala.,
has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending January 15,
2012.
Wainwright is very involved with The Exceptional
Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to meet the social
and recreational needs of the mentally and/or physically challenged
individuals in the greater Birmingham area. She has helped to lead
several basketball clinics for EF and this past fall she
volunteered for their annual Exceptional Masterpieces Art Show to
help raise funds for the organization.
Wainwright also does several hours of tutoring at
local schools every week, and has done so since the fall of 2010.
She has also been involved in Blueprints, a direct service-learning
experience for college students to provide college access
counseling and mentoring to low-income high school juniors, helping
them with building resumes, the college application process, and
how to choose the right school.
In the fall of 2009, her freshman year, Wainwright
also helped with an Upward Basketball clinic along with the rest of
the BSC team.
