BELLE ASBURY OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Sunday, Ocotber 12 through Tuesday, October 14. SCAC Golf Release (Week 5)
Asbury led wire-to-wire, claiming her first collegiate individual medalist honor, at the SCAC Fall Preview to lead the way for the Bulldogs. Asbury opened with a four-over par 76 and followed that up with a second round 75 (+3), highlighted by five birdies to secure the win. She finished the tournament with seven birdies, most in the field, and led the competition in par 5 scoring average (5.00).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Haylee Crowder of Centenary was the Ladies’ top finisher at the SCAC Fall Preview, securing a tie for fifth after a two-round total of 162 (+18). Crowder fired rounds of 80 (+8) and 82 (+10), highlighted by 16 total pars, tied for eighth in the field. Sophomore Remme Trujillo of Concordia (TX) paced the way for the Tornados at the SCAC Fall Preview. Trujillo finished tied for fifth, carding a two-round total of 162 (+18). Trujillo fired back-to-back rounds of 81 (+9). Trujillo finished the tournament with 19 pars, tied for the third most in the field. Sophomore Jennifer Converse of Dallas posted a top 15 finish at the SCAC Fall Preview to lead the way for the Crusaders. Converse finished tied for 13th with a two-day total of 168 (+24) after firing back-to-back rounds of 84. Senior Amber Alsup of Hendrix was the Warriors’ top finisher at the SCAC Fall Preview, finishing tied for 15th. Alsup posted rounds of 86 (+14) and 83 (+11) to finish with a two-round total of 169 (+25). Her 16 total pars finished tied for eighth in the field. Junior Kinley Pressel of LeTourneau led the YellowJackets to a 17th-place team finish at the Golfweek October Classic in Sandestin, Florida. Pressel finished tied for 21st in a field of 120 with a three-round total of 228 (+12), highlighted by a final round of 74. She finished the week with 36 pars, tied for the eighth most in the field. First-Year Katelyn Henslee of McMurry continued her outstanding rookie campaign, posting a tie for fifth-place finish at the SCAC Fall Preview. Henslee fired rounds of 79 (+7) and 83 (+11) for a two-day total of 162 (+18). She finished the week tied for fifth in the field with three birdies. Sophomore Madelyn Miller and junior Abby Yanta of Schreiner finished tied for ninth at the SCAC Fall Preview with matching 36-hole scores of 164 (+20). Miller and Yanta finished tied for third (5.25) and sixth (5.38) in par 5 scoring respectively on the week. Sophomores Leah Torres and Cameron Fraizer of St. Thomas lifted the Celts to a team title at the SCAC Fall Preview. Torres and Fraizer were two of the three Celts to finish in the top five, finishing tied for second with mirroring 36-hole scores of 152 (+8), just one shot behind the individual medalist. Fraizer and Torres finished first and second respectively in the field in total pars made with 25 and 24.
