HAILEY COLEMAN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior center from Kansas City, Mo., has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 31 through Sunday, February 6. (Women's Basketball Weekly Release - Week 13)
Coleman led No. 24 Trinity to a pair of home wins last weekend, defeating both Centenary and Austin College to remain unbeaten atop the league standings. Coleman averaged a double-double for the week (14.5 points/10.0 rebounds), shooting 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the field and adding 3.5 assists/game. She began with 17 points and eight rebounds against Centenary, despite playing just 20 minutes in the game. She hit 7-of-13 from the field and dished out three assists. In Sunday's weekend finale against Austin College, she finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists in just 23 minutes of action, hitting 6-of-8 from the floor. This season, Coleman is averaging 12.1 points/game and 7.9 rebounds/game for the Tigers. She also leads the SCAC in shooting overall, hitting 60.0 percent (102-of-170) from the floor, and ranks second in the league in blocks/game (1.6).
Junior forward Talia Cloud of Colorado College averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as the Tigers climbed into fourth place with victories over Southwestern and Texas Lutheran in the final two home games of the season. In Saturday’s 71-58 win over the Pirates, Cloud matched her season high of 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Less than 24 hours later, she flashed her outside skills by hitting a career-high six three-pointers for a season-high 18 points in the 67-63 victory TLU. Cloud finished the week 12-for-25 from the floor and 9-for-18 from behind the arc and helped the Tigers extend their winning streak to a season-best four games. She also blocked three shots and dished out a pair of assists. First-year guard Demauria Miles of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to back-to-back wins against conference opponents last weekend while averaging 19 points per game, including a season-high 26 in a win over Centenary. She also added 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Senior forward Taylor Carney of Southwestern was a steady two-way presence for the Pirates last week, averaging 10.5 points per game on 47.1 percent shooting, including 37.5 percent from behind the 3-point line. She also averaged 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and a steal per game as Southwestern split a pair of SCAC contests. Junior forward Olivia Anga of St. Thomas scored 16 points on 75 percent shooting, going 6-of-8 from the field, and added seven rebounds, three steals and two assists in a tough loss to TLU last week. Senior guard Jenesis Navarro of Texas Lutheran scored in double figures twice last week and averaged 11.7 points per game to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record against SCAC opponents. She also added 5.0 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 0.7 steals per contest.
