SUWANEE, Ga. - In a weekend of non-conference action, new records were set in the SCAC. Rhodes set a new SCAC team winning streak with 11 straight wins after a 4-1 victory over Washington and Lee. The Lynx passed the previous record of 10 set by Centre in 2007. Individually, DePauw's Margaret Ellis set a new single season scoring record with her 17th goal on the year passing the record previously posted by Lynn Hancock of Sewanee at 16 set in 2008.

Centre took the week off and will return to action this weekend as the Colonels host Division II Bellarmine Friday night.
The DePauw Tigers are 10-4 on the season after
dropping a pair of games at Denison (2-1) and Washington &
Jefferson (4-3). Denison took a 2-0 lead before the Tigers'
Margaret Ellis scored at 43:27. Ellis' goal was her 17th of the
season which broke the SCAC single season mark. Denison held a 13-6
edge in shots and a 9-8 margin in corners. DePauw's Liz Attewell
totaled six saves. Washington & Jefferson scored the
game-winning goal with no time remaining after a penalty corner was
awarded with 0.2 second remaiing. The Presidents took a 2-0 lead in
the opening 16 minutes but DePauw closed the gap to 2-1 on Ellis'
goal on an assist from Kimberly Trainor with less than four minutes
left in the half. The Tigers took a 3-2 lead after Bridgette
Shamleffer scored twice in a span of 13 seconds with the first
coming on Courtney Woods' assist. W&J knotted the score with
seven minutes left. The Presidents held a 23-11 advantage in shots
and a 20-8 edge in penalty corners. Attewell recorded 11 saves for
DePauw.
Hendrix snagged two victories after an exciting weekend in
Louisville, Ky. The Warriors earned a 9-0 rout against
TrineUniversity on Friday night before upsetting Bellarmine
University, 2-1, on Saturday evening. Bellarmine, an NCAA
D-II member, came into Saturday’s game ranked No. 9 in the
nation. Hendrix improved to 4-7 with the wins and will look
to carry its momentum into this weekend’s SCAC home
games. Hendrix set a handful of new single-game records after
blasting Trine on neutral ground at host Bellarmine Friday
evening. Senior forward Abby Coleman led the team with three
goals as the Warriors racked up 44 shots in the match.
Coleman’s three-goal and one-assist effort set a new
single-game mark in points (7) and shots on-goal (7). She
also tied the school record with three goals in a game. First
year midfielder Molly Umble tied a Hendrix record with two
assists. Hendrix also set new team records with 22 points,
nine goals, 44 shots and 32 shots on-goal. The Warrior defense had
an outstanding day as they did not allow a single shot the entire
match. Hendrix wrapped up an exciting weekend against No. 9
Bellarmine at O.B. Frazier Stadium on Saturday evening. The
Warriors’ third straight “W” sets a new school
record and improves the squad to 4-7 on the year. Despite being
outshot, 13-2, Hendrix used a come-from-behind effort to outlast
the Bellarmine Knights’ game-opening score in the 18th
minute. Senior defender Heather Newell scored Hendrix’s
game-winner off a pass from DesPain in the 54th minute.
Newell netted her third goal of the year after LaFortune sent the
ball in on the penalty corner. The Warrior defense bounced
back on just a day’s rest to have another solid night.
Hendrix did not allow Bellarmine another look at the goal after the
Warriors went on top in the 54th minute. Warrior senior
goalkeeper Alyssa Havens had an outstanding night in front of the
net. Havens was a wall and denied seven shots (six in the
first half).
Rhodes advanced to 12-1 with a 4-1 win over
Washington and Lee at Sewanee on Friday. The Lynx controlled
first half play but found themselves knotted in a 0-0 match at half
time after having an early goal called back. Rhodes dominated
posession the second period of play and managed to find the back of
the cage four times before the final whistle blew. Lindsey
Gurkovich led off the scoring tallying the game winner just 5
minutes into the second half. Lindsey scored a second goal
just 8 minutes later to put the Lynx up 2-0 on an assist from Sarah
Ferguson. Washington and Lee made a strong push late and
scored a goal with 8 minutes remaining but the Lynx countered with
two of their own to finish off the match. Libby Jones scored
on a pass from Charlie Wagner on a penalty corner play and Katie
Faucher scored on a breakaway on a pass from Gurkovich in the final
seconds. The Lynx (12-1, 5-0 SCAC) face off against DePauw
and Sewanee at home this coming weekend.
Despite being out shot, 24-15, the Sewanee field
hockey team walked away with a 4-3 victory over visiting Washington
and Lee this afternoon. Elise Landau and Taylor Skeen both
racked up two goals apiece to lead the Tigers over the Generals.
Skeen started off hot for the Tigers, putting one past W&L
goalkeeper Caroline Sutherland just five minutes into the contest.
She added to her own goal just 1:26 later, when she found the net
again, this time off a pass from Carly Grimm. Landau added to the
Sewanee scoring attack seven minutes later when she put an
unassisted goal past Sutherland to make it 3-0 Sewanee. Washington
and Lee countered though, with just 1:13 left in the first half, as
Chelsea Stevenson sent a shot past Sewanee keeper Anna Morrow
to make it 3-1 heading into the half. W&L kicked off the
scoring in the second half when Kelly Tran put a shot past Sewanee
goalie Emily Detmer to make it 3-2 in favor of the hosts.
Alex Hensleigh tied things up at the 19:27 mark when her shot made
its’ way past Detmer and into the goal to even it at three
apiece. But Landau wasn’t done for the day. With just 12:12
left in the contest, Landau netted the game-winner when her shot
sailed past Sutherland and into the W&L net. Skeen picked up
the assist on the goal. Landau’s second goal of the day put
the Tigers up 4-3 and they would never look back as they cruised to
victory over the Generals. W&L held the edge in shots, 24-15,
and corners, 12-5. Morrow and Detmer each picked up eight saves for
the Tigers. Sewanee moves to 4-8 on the year and will take on
Hendrix College on Saturday.
