SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The top-seeded Trinity women’s
tennis team won its third consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Championship with a 5-0 victory over No. 3 Schreiner
University on Sunday morning. Official

Trinity (13-8) also won its 18th overall SCAC Championship, and
gained the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
Led by Head Coach Matthew Haugen, the Tigers opened the dual match
by winning all three doubles matchups. The tightest match was No. 1
doubles, as Liza Southwick and Kathleen Lundquist won 8-4, and
improved their record to 2-0. Stephanie Williamson and Kylie
Hornbeck took No. 2 doubles 8-1, and now stand at 10-1 on the
season. Caroline White and Gabrielle Roe remained undefeated at 7-0
after winning No. 3 doubles 8-2.
Two singles matches were played to conclusion. Roe won No. 4
singles 6-1, 6-0, and upped her record to 13-5. The clincher came
at No. 6 singles, with Williamson prevailing 6-1, 6-0. Williamson
is sporting a 10-4 season record.
Hornbeck was leading No. 1 singles 6-3, 5-4; Hamilton held a 7-5,
4-1 advantage at No. 2 singles; White was ahead 7-5, 3-0 on the No.
3 line; and Lavinia Bendandi led 4-1 in the No. 5 match before
Trinity was declared the overall winner.
The NCAA bids will be issued on May 5.
