LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- A conference match-up of the league's top two women's teams highlighted action on the court this past week.

For the first time in program history, the Southwestern women (13-4 overall, 6-0 SCAC) defeated Trinity, earning a 7-2 road victory over the Tigers on Saturday.

Trinity jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles as Megan Flores and Catherine Cushing defeated Esther Bowers and Nina Elez, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles, and the No. 2 team of Mary and Zoe Kaffen defeated Mariana Quetzeri and Taylor Despriet, 8-4.

The Pirates' Alli Ziehm and Emma Kesterson closed doubles with a big 8-5 victory over Nichole Markiewicz and Elodie Richard in No. 3 doubles to avoid the sweep.

Southwestern carried that momentum over to singles play, sweeping the Tigers with Ziehm clinching the match for the Pirates with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Paulina Garcia in No. 6 singles.

Trinity (7-7 overall; 3-1 SCAC) bounced back with a 9-0 sweep of Schreiner later than evening. Mary Kaffen at No. 3, Garcia at No. 5 and Ellie Hughes at No. 6 all posted 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in individual play.

In other action in the conference, Schreiner and Texas Lutheran both dropped matches to Western New Mexico (7-0 and 9-0, respectively), Austin College fell 6-3 to Texas Wesleyan and Colorado College dropped a 6-1 decision to Colorado Mesa.
