MURPHY BURNS
OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior guard/forward from
Oklahoma City, Okla., has been named SCAC Women’s Basketball
Player-of-the-Week for games played Monday, December 17 through
Monday, December 31.
Burns led Trinity to a 3-2 record over the
holiday break, winning two out of three games at home, following a
split of road games in California.
Burns scored 20 or more points in four of the five games, missing out in the final game with a 19-point effort in a win over Texas Lutheran.
She averaged 22.2 points/game over the five contests, hitting
50% (38-76) from the field. Burns also nailed
41.4% (12-29) from three-point range for the two weeks. In addition
to her scoring prowess over the past five games, Burns also
averaged 3.2 steals/game and 4.8 rebounds/game over the
holidays.
For the season, Burns leads the team with 19.4 points/game and is hitting 44.3% (78-176) from the field. She has also knocked in 36% (27-75) of her three-pointers this year, and leads all Tiger players with 25 steals.
