LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - With the 2012-13 regular season complete, attention turns to the 2013 SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament where all six women's basketball teams will travel to Austin College to compete for the 2013 SCAC Women's Basketball Championship and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Austin College topped Centenary 74-64 in the
team's final regular season game, bringing the team's overall
record of 11-14 as they head into the SCAC Tournament this weekend.
Brittany Stepanski scored a career high 25 points on 7-of-10
shooting from the field and 11-of-13 shooting from the charity
stripe and added seven rebounds and Erin Riley posted a
double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Shayna Clardy added
13 points and pulled down nine rebounds, and Christina Kime chipped
in nine points, eight assists, and five rebounds.
Centenary dropped a 74-64 decision to Austin
College in its only contest of the week. the Ladies recorded 14
steals – the second highest total this season behind a 15
swipe effort against Colorado College earlier this season. The
Ladies had a tough outing in shooting connecting just under 30
percent of their shots from the floor. Centenary hit just 2 of its
17 shots behind the arc with both connections coming from
Sharp-Moore. The Maroon and White forced 21 Roo turnovers in the
contest and converted them into 20 points. Vashni Sharp-Moore
posted 27 points in the loss – marking her 12th game this
season with 20-plus points and the 15th of her career. Dionecia
Warr joined her teammate with 13 points and added a team-best seven
rebounds.
Colorado College wrapped up the 2012-13 regular
season on the road as it traveled to Trinity University and
Southwestern University. The Tigers fell to Trinity, 86-57 on
Friday and to the Pirates, 77-54 on Sunday. Sophomore Courtney Tyus
led the team over the weekend averaging 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds,
4.0 steals and 4.0 assists a game. Senior Marissa Gradoz added 13.5
point a game, while senior Kalli Kemling added nine points a game.
CC finished with a 4-11 record in league play and takes a 4-21
overall mark into the conference championship tournament in
Sherman, Texas, next weekend. The Tigers enter the playoffs as a
No. 6 seed and will open play against host and No. 3 seed Austin
College at 3 p.m. (CT) Friday at Hughey Gymnasium.
Dallas (11-14, 4-11 SCAC) concluded the 2012-13 regular
season with a 1-2 week. The Crusaders claimed an 83-75 senior night
victory over Arlington Baptist College on Monday evening at the
Maher Athletic Center. Senior guard Kylie Yoshimura was honored in
a ceremony at midcourt, and produced a game-high 28 points in the
win. She also navigated to 12 assists, a fete which tied her yet
again for the single-game school record. Dallas proceeded to fall
73-55 and 82-68 to Southwestern University and Trinity University,
respectively. Christina Kurt managed a team-high 24 points versus
the Pirates, while Yoshimura recorded a team-high 22 against the
Tigers. Dallas enters the conference tournament as the No. 5 seed
and will face Centenary College of Louisiana on Friday in a 1 p.m.
quarterfinal affair in Sherman, Texas.
Southwestern closed out the regular season with a pair of
wins over the University of Dallas and Colorado College to improve
to 18-7 overall and 12-3 in SCAC play. SU overcame a tough
offensive night on Friday to win 73-55 over UD, shooting just 39%
from the field and 5% from three point range. Sunday, the Pirates
started each half slow, but put together big runs in each half to
easily defeat Colorado College 77-54. They enter the SCAC
Conference Tournament as the #2 seed and earn a first round bye.
They will play the winner of the #3/#6 game on Saturday at 3
p.m.
Trinity finished off the regular season schedule with a
pair of wins over the weekend, defeating both Colorado College and
the University of Dallas. The Tigers finished with a perfect 15-0
SCAC record for the first time in school history. Head coach
Cameron Hill has led the team to 21 victories this season, which is
the fourth-highest total in Tiger women’s basketball history,
and is believed to be the most wins for a first-year head coach in
the program. The team has also won 15 consecutive games heading
into this weekend’s SCAC Tournament, which is the
second-longest streak in school history. Murphy Burns moved into
ninth place on Trinity’s all-time scoring list over the
weekend, passing the 1,100-point barrier in Sunday’s win over
Dallas. She has hit a career-best 57 three-pointers on the season,
which is just three away from tying the record set by Danielle
Hubenak in 2010-11. Burns is also second in career three-pointers
at Trinity, trailing the record set by Hubenak (2007-11) by 24
threes. As the top seed, Trinity receives one of two byes in this
weekend’s tournament. The Tigers will play on Saturday
afternoon at 1 p.m., matching up against either #4 Centenary or #5
Dallas. Those two teams will open tournament play at 1 p.m. on
Friday. The SCAC Championship game is scheduled for 12 p.m. on
Sunday afternoon.
