MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Southwestern University junior forward Chelsea Leeder, as well as Trinity University junior guard/forward Murphy Burns were named to the 2013 D3hoops.com All-South team. Trinity first-year forward Anecia Richardson was named the South Rookie of the Year.

Leeder, the 2012-13 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year, was named to the All-South first team while Burns, who was Co-Player of the Year along with Leeder, was named to the All-South second team.

Leeder was also named the SCAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year making her the first player in SCAC history to win both Player and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season.

Leeder ranked third in the SCAC in 3-pointers made (2.15/game), third in assist to turnover ratio (1.45), fourth in steals (2.41/game), fourth in blocked shots (1.00/game) fifth in scoring (14.9 points/game) and sixth in field goal percentage (42.2 percent) as well as 3-point field goal percentage (32.8 percent) and ranked seventh with 3.44 assists/game.

Burns became the first Trinity player to be named SCAC Player of the Year since Megan Selmon in 2001-02 and helped lead the Tigers to their first SCAC championship since 2005 and a berth in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship for the first time since 2008. Last season she led the league in scoring and nearly duplicated the feat as she finished second in the SCAC in scoring at 18.3 points/game.

Burns also led or was ranked among the SCAC leaders in free throw percentage (83.5 percent - 1st), 3-point field goals made (2.21/game - 2nd), 3-point field goal percentage (34.6 percent - 4th), field goal percentage (41.5 percent - 7th) and steals (2.18/game - 7th).

Her 37 blocks are the most by a first-year player at Trinity since Krista Prato-Matthews in 2005-06.

The first-year forward, who is just the second Trinity women’s player to earn Newcomer-of-the-Year honors, was even more impressive during conference competition, averaging 14.7 points (fourth in the SCAC) and 6.1 rebounds (14th in the SCAC) in those 15 contests.
