Southwestern and DePauw Softball Teams Earn Spot in NCAA D3 Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - SCAC champion Southwestern University earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2010 Division III Softball Championship. DePauw University joins the Pirates in the field of 60-teams - marking just the second time in league history the SCAC has landed two teams in the championship.

Southwestern will be traveling just one state to the East for their first-ever NCAA Regional and will face the University of Texas at Tyler in the first round of the double elimination regional hosted by Louisiana College. The game is set for May 14th at noon.

Southwestern comes into the tournament as the underdog, being seeded fifth out of six teams in the Regional and face the #2 seed in UT-Tyler. SU enters with a 31-11 record while the Patriots tout a 37-7 record on the season.

Joining Southwestern and UT-Tyler in the six team Regional are East Texas Baptist University (ASC), Mississippi College (ASC), LaVerne (SCIAC), and host institution Louisiana College (ASC).

DePauw is seeded second in the Greencastle, Indiana Regional and will open tournament play on Thursday against seventh-seeded Denison (30-15).

The other matchups in the regional include #1 seed Ohio Northern (37-5) vs. #8 seed Thomas More (22-18); #5 seed Trine (26-13) vs. #4 seed North Central (31-12) and #3 seed Washington-St. Louis (34-9) vs. #6 seed Transylvania (34-9).
