Johnny Lawson, Trinity University, Men's Soccer - Offensive Co-Player of the Week (Week 4)

JOHNNY LAWSON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, Septemerber 15th through Sunday, Septemeber 21st. 

Lawson led the 4th-ranked Trinity men’s soccer team to road victories over Austin College and the University of Dallas to earn a weekend sweep in SCAC play.

Lawson scored three goals and contributed two assists over the two games, as well as picking up his first game-winning goal of the season. Against Austin, Lawson opened the scoring with goals in the 12th and 24th minutes, with his opening score being the eventual game-winner in the Tiger shutout. In Sunday’s win over Dallas, Lawsonassisted on the first two goals – including the game-tying goal in the 14th minute, and the game-winning goal with a little more than 10 minutes left until halftime. He then capped the game’s scoring with a goal in the 62nd minute to seal the win.

For the season, Lawson now leads the Tigers with 16 total points, netting a team-best six goals to go with four assists (second on the team). He has scored one game-winning goal, which came during this week’s action. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman forward Gregg Guittierez of Schreiner helped lead the Mountaineers to a 1-1 week. He had a goal in the loss to Colorado and in the victory over Centenary. Freshman midfielder Christian Lopez of Southwestern scored what would be the game winner on an assist from David Arellano, and notched a second on a rebound before the half-time whistle. Both Lopez's goals came in the first half. Austin CollegeCentenaryDallas, and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone.
