Karem Ramirez, Southwestern University, Softball

KAREN RAMIREZ OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior shortstop on the Pirates' softball team, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending March 23, 2014.

A member of Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society and Kappa Delta Chi, Ramirez is a Spanish and English tutor. She is also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is the Secretary for the 2013-14 academic year.

Away form campus, Ramirez interned for the Williamson County Museum in the fall of 2013, developing lesson plans and activities for the new World War II Traveling Trunk exhibition, organized activities for Saturdays of Hands-on History and instructed over 300 students during Pioneer Days.

She also interned at the Dr. Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute and is a game day worker for the Athletics Department and works as a SIRA official.

This past fall, Ramirez was an EFLEP Spanish Student Teacher at Pickett Elementary, creating lesson plans and activities for third and fourth graders.
