SHELBY HOPKINS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defender from Albuquerque, N.M., has been selected as the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 3 through Sunday, September 9.
Hopkins and the Trinity defense recorded a pair of shutout victories on the road last weekend, defeating both UT-Tyler and UT-Dallas.
Hopkins and the Tigers gave up 19 shots in
the two games, but just three of those shots were on goal. In
addition to pacing the defensive effort, Hopkins
also got on the board with her first career goal in the UT-Dallas
game.
Hopkins scored on a free kick to make it a 3-0 lead late in the game, sealing the victory.
For the season, Hopkins has led Trinity to four shutouts in five games, allowing just one goal in 390 minutes of action.
