RACHEL CHAVEZ OF TRINITY UNIVERSTY, a senior guard from El Paso, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 7 through Sunday, January 13. 

Chavez sparked Trinity to a pair of road wins in SCAC play last, defeating both Colorado College and Johnson & Wales. Chavez led a productive second unit for the Tigers that outpaced competition 84-16 in bench scoring over the two games, including a career-high 14-point effort to beat Colorado College on Friday night. Chavez averaged 11.5 points per game on 75 percent shooting over the weekend, hitting 9-for-12 from the field, 4-for-5 from three-point range and 1-for-1 at the foul line. On the season, Chavez is averaging 4.1 points per game and is shooting 49 percent (25-for-51) from the field and 47.6 percent (10-for-21) from distance in her 15 games played.

Other Outstanding Performances:

Austin College senior forward Bryce Frank averaged a double-double with 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, collecting her 10th and 11th double-double performacnes of the season against Southwestern and Texas Lutheran. Junior guard Zhazze Brown of Southwestern led the Pirates to a double-overtime victory against Austin College scoring 17 points, including the final five to force a second overtime period. Colorado College senior guard Casey Torbet netted her 1,000 career point against Trinity on Friday, becoming the 13th Tiger to do so, scoring 13 points in the loss. Junior guard Dominque Campos of Texas Lutheran matched a career high 23-points against Schreiner adding four rebounds and two assists in the process. Campos averaged 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for TLU in its two-game stretch.
