Abby Holland, Trinity University, Player of the Week (Week 2)
ABBY HOLLAND OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior forward from Georgetown, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, November 12 through Sunday, November 18.

Holland led the Tiger women’s basketball team to a 3-0 record to start the season last week, earning a pair of key regional wins on the road against Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound.

Holland averaged 19.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game during the week, hitting 47.5% (19-40) from the field and 86.4% (19-22) from the free throw line. After starting the season with 13 points and seven rebounds in a blowout win over Concordia, the junior posted a career-high 22 points twice in wins over PLU and UPS.

Against Pacific Lutheran, Holland hit 8 of 14 from the field and 6 of 7 from the free throw line, adding three rebounds and five steals. Her two free throws with six seconds left put the icing on the cake in that game, ending all hopes for a possible comeback. In Saturday’s win at Puget Sound, she was 8 of 18 from the floor and 6 of 8 from the charity stripe, adding six boards and a pair of steals. In the fourth quarter, Holland scored seven of the team’s 13 points, including five points in a span of 46 seconds to turn a one-point Tiger lead into a 56-50 margin with 1:23 to play.

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior forward Bryce Frank of Austin College continued her hot start to the season, averaging 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting just under 62% from the field as the ‘Roos swept their two SCAC/SAA matchups against Millsaps and Hendrix. Senior guard Cami Davis of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs to a 53-50 overtime win over LeTourneau by scoring 15 points in the victory and hitting two key three-pointers - one late in regulation and one in overtime. TLU rallied from eight points down late in regulation to force overtime. Sophomore guard McKenzee Gertz of Colorado College scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds in each game at the Whittier College Tournament. With her fourth and final three-pointer in Friday’s 67-53 win over Occidental College, Gertz climbed into 10th place on the program’s career list with 65. Junior center Cecily Woolfolk of Southwestern averaged 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game to lead the Pirates over the weekend. She hit on 56.3 percent (9-16) from the floor.
