Women's Basketball Recap (Week 6) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – This week, five of the eight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball teams were in action.

Austin College
The 'Roos went 2-1 over the weekend, falling to Millsaps, 78-49, defeating Hendrix, 64-62, and defeating North Park, 59-54 in overtime. Austin College could not overcome a poor shooting performance, shooting 29.1% from the field in the loss. Kendall Heitmeier led the way with 10 points. Against Hendrix, the 'Roos got a 17 point effort from Christina Kime and an 11 point game from Brianna Harvey to hold off a Warrior rally for the victory. The 'Roos returned home to defeated North Park in OT as Kime led the way with 18 points, playing 42 minutes, while Harvey added a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards. Austin Collgege will take some time off for the Christmas holidays and return on Monday, December 29th to take on Illinois College. 

Colorado College
Junior guard Katie Waters scored 15 points to lead four Tigers in double figures, but Colorado College ran out of time and dropped an 81-75 decision to Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday, Dec. 16. CC used a 6-0 run to pull to within three points with 1:29 to play, only to see the Wildcats secure the victory by making three of four free throws during the final 14 seconds. Senior guard Courtney Tyus finished with 14 points, junior forward Danielle Davis added 13, and junior guard Katie Wirth finished with 12. With five assists and a pair of steals, Tyus climbed into second place on the program’s career lists with 332 assists and 190 steals. Colorado College returns to action on Dec. 28 when it travels to Espanola, N.M. to take on Northern New Mexico College in its final non-conference game of the season. The Tigers open conference play on January 2nd and 3rd when Centenary College visits Reid Gymnasium.

Southwestern University
The Pirates dropped a pair of games, falling to Rust College on the road and No. 23 Rhodes. Against the Bearcats, Southwestern fell 82-78, despite a terrific 26 points, 10 rebound performance from Jordan Owens while Annie Bourne added a 15 point, 12 rebound performance. Against Rhodes, Audrey Garcia put a career high with 23 points to lead the way in the 70-60 loss. Owens added 11 points on the afternoon while Madison Eschle had 10 points. Bourne, the leading rebounder in the SCAC, had 15 rebounds in the contest. Southwestern takes some time off for Christmas, but returns to action on December 30th to take on Concordia (TX). 

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs went 2-0 over the weekend, beginning with a 73-53 victory over Manchester and coming back on the road to knock off Hendrix, 83-71. Thanks to a huge second half where the Bulldogs shot over 50% from the field, the Bulldogs blew open a tie game at half for a 20 point win. Kristen Lye led the way with 18 pointsand eight boards while Taylor Dydalewicz had 16 points and six rebounds. The Bulldogs continued that trent in the second game against Hendrix, outscoring the Warriors by nine for the win. Dydalewicz led the way with 14 points while Karisa Cantu had 12 points and seven steals. The Bulldogs will enjoy their Christmas break as they return to acton on December 30th to battle a top ten foe in Texas-Tyler.

Trinity University
The Tigers went 2-0 over the weekend as they finally opened up their home season in 2014-15, starting with a 59-54 victory over North Park followed by a 65-53 victory over Manchester to improve their winning streak to six games. Caitlin Barrett scored 20 points to lead the scoring barrage as Hannah Coley added 17 against North Park. Coley led the way with 20 points while Anecia Richardson poured in 16 in the victory. The Tigers outscored Manchester by 10 in the second half to pull away for the 12 point victory. Trinity will take some time off for Christmas, but returns to action on December 28th to take on McMurry at home.
