Trinity Vaults into Tournament Finale With Win Over St. Thomas

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- After an afternoon and evening of rain delays, top-seeded Trinity University perservered with a 5-0 win in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Semifinals over #4 seed University of St. Thomas late Friday night.

The Tigers are seeking their 11th straight conference title and will face off against Southwestern University in the championship match for the sixth straight time. Trinity is 13-7 this season after the win, while St. Thomas concludes 2021 with an overall record of 4-8.

Trinity's Jordan Pitts and Christian Settles jump-started the doubles action with an 8-0 win at line three, then the top doubles duo of Christian Settles and Hao Nguyen won 8-1 shortly after. Cameron Krimbill and Alessio Azzalini took a quick 3-0 lead at line two, but then had to rally after Race Haas and Tyler Head of St. Thomas scored four straight to pull in front. The Tiger duo held on for an 8-5 win that meant a doubles sweep and 3-0 lead for Trinity.

Nguyen opened the singles scoring with his 6-0, 6-0 win at line three, then the Tigers clinched with Alessio Azzalini's 6-1, 6-2 line two victory.
