Southwestern's Cowart Highlights Four SCAC Golfers on PING All-America Team

NORMAN, Okla. -  Junior Jordan Cowart of Southwestern University led four SCAC golfers as he earned second team All-America on the PING Division III All-America team that was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.  Joining Cowart are three golfers from the NCAA Champion Schreiner. Juniors Cheyne Kendall and Jimmy Keener and freshman Matt McClung all earned Honorable Mention honors.

Cowart had an average score of 73.91 this season, 1.91 vs. par and 1.88 adjusted. In nine tournaments he finished in the top five five times including a second place finish in the SCAC Championships to earn First Team All-SCAC honors.

Cowart and his Pirate teammates earned an at-large bids to the NCAA Championship. Cowart carded a +2 for a total 290 at the championships to finish third in his second trip to the NCAA Championship. His third place finish also helped the Southwestern men's golf team to its highest ever finish at the NCAA Championship with an 11th place finish.

Kendall was the highest ranked Schreiner player this past year. He finished the year ranked No. 15 in the nation individually, won a tournament (Schreiner Spring Shootout), broke the school scoring record (74.27), finished runner-up at the SCAC Championship Tournament and did the same at the NCAA Championship. He finished the year posting five straight top-three finishes individually and was named First Team All-SCAC.

Keener bookended his year with very strong performances. He started the year by winning the John Bohmann Memorial and finished the year placing third overall at the NCAA Championship Tournament.  He ended up ranked as the 20th best player in all of D-III golf. He had an overall stroke average of 75.48.

McClung had an impressive rookie campaign. He became the third Mountaineer men's golfer to win a tournament as a freshman (JDG/UT-Dallas Spring Classic), was named to the D-III All-Freshman Team, earned honorable mention All-SCAC and carried a 75.36 scoring average.

The three Mountaineers, along with junior Zach Oliver and sophomore Phil Stewart, won the SCAC title in record-breaking fashion in April in the school's first year as a member.  The Mountaineers received its first at-large bid to last month's NCAA Championship and proceeded to go wire-to-wire to win the title by five strokes over Oglethorpe University.
