HEATH HOPSON
OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from
Lampasas, Texas has been named SCAC Basketball Player-of-the-Week
for games played Monday, February 11 through Sunday, February
17.
Hopson led Trinity to a pair of home wins to
close out the regular season, and secured the SCAC
Tournament’s top seed with the victories.
Hopson averaged 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game to lead the Tigers in both categories, hitting 12-19 (63.2%) from the field and 10-11 (90.9%) from the foul line. He also drained his only three-point attempt of the weekend.
Against Colorado College, Hopson finished
with 14 points and eight rebounds to keep the Tigers alive for the
top seed.
On Sunday, with the Tigers struggling for much of the game, Hopson sparked the team with a 21-point performance in which he knocked down 8-10 from the floor – including a rare three-point basket.
For the season, Hopson is second on the team with 9.9 points/game and leads the Tigers with 5.8 rebounds/game. He is shooting 53.8% (84-156) from the field and 87.7% (57-65) from the line this year. Sunday marked just his sixth start of the season.
