Seeds Hold in First Day of 2014 SCAC Men's Tennis Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas
- Second-seeded Texas Lutheran University, third-seeded Colorado College and fourth-seeded Schreiner Unviersity each earned first round wins Friday morning at the 2014 SCAC Men's Tennis Championship being contested on the campus of Trinity University. Official Championship Website | Photo Gallery

In match No. 1, Schreiner University earned a 5-1 victory over fifth-seeded Austin College after an early morning misting rain forced the tournament's first matches to be delayed for two and a half hours. The Mountaineers took two of the three doubles points and then picked up individual wins from Austin Carrola (No. 1), Josh Ramirez (No. 3) and Christian Casillas (No. 5) to clinch the match. In match No. 2, the Colorado College men blanked Southwestern University 5-0. The Tigers swept all three doubles points and put the match away with singles wins from Jack Burger (No. 3) and Ross Sherman (No. 6). Texas Lutheran blanked a short-handed Cententary College squad, 5-0, in match No. 3. The Bulldogs swept the doubles points, including a forfeit win at No. 3 doubles and then needed only a win at No. 5 singles from Henry Moon to take the 5-0 victory. SCAC championship play resumes on Saturday as top-seeded and seventh-ranked Trinity University takes on Schreiner in one men's semifinal and Texas Lutheran tangles with Colorado College in the other. Both matches are slated for 8 a.m. starts.

Also, Southwestern and Centenary will play in a consolation match at 8 a.m. with the winner advancing to take on Austin College at 2 p.m. in the fifth-place match.
