Lizzy Counts of Colorado College was selected as SCAC Player of the Year.
Counts, a sophomore setter from Oakland, Calif., marks the fourth consecutive year that a Colorado College student-athlete has take hom ethe league's hoor as former teammate Abbe Holtze won in 2016 and 2014, and Courtney Birkett won the award in 2015. In addition, she is just the fourth sophomore in league history to take home SCAC POTY honors and the sixth setter.
Counts has been the glue for the CC Tigers throughout the team's historic season. She led the conference in assists per set with 10.19. She also ended the season fifth in service aces per set at .45. Counts drove the offense that hit a league best .262 (ninth in the nation), including .282 in conference competition. She is a three-time SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week during the 2017 season and earned AVCA National Player-of-the-Week honors on October 3. It was just the 11th time an SCAC student-athlete had earned the AVCA National POTW recognition but Counts is the only one to received the award twice. She earned the National AVCA POTW award in October 2016 as a freshman.
Counts received five first-place votes from teh caoches in the balloting for Player-of-the-Year.
