ERIKA EDRINGTON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior setter from Houston, Tx., has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Co-Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 6th through Sunday, September 11th.
Edrington led Trinity's volleyball team to a 4-0 record over the weekend, earning the co-championship of the Trinity Fall Classic Tournament.
Edrington averaged 10.09 assists/set for the weekend, during which Trinity held a perfect 12-0 record in sets. She held that average despite running a two-setter offense for two of the four matches the Tigers played. Edrington also led Trinity's offense to a stellar .325 hitting percentage as a team.
Edrington was second among all Tiger players in digs for the weekend, tallying 34 total (3.09/set), and reaching double figures in three of the four matches. Edrington had 29 assists in two of the 3-0 wins, then finished with an astounding 39 assists (13.0/set) against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday afternoon.
Edrington's performance over the weekend led her to be named the Trinity Fall Classic MVP. Edrington leads Trinity with 251 assists, and is averaging a team-best 10.46 assists/set this season, and the Tigers are hitting .239 as a team. She has piled up 54 digs for the year so far, averaging 2.25/set.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior middle blocker Rebekah Bowden of Austin College was named to the AC Invitational All-Tournament team, averaging 2.23 kills with a .450 hitting percentage, and 1.46 blocks per set. Sophomore outside hitter Jamison Duck of Southwestern University was named to the All-Tournament Team with a perfect 12-0 set record. Senior outside hitter Kristin Fording of Texas Lutheran University averaged 4.53 kills per set and 3.27 digs per set with 68 total kills while leading the Bulldogs to a win in the TLU Bulldog Classic. Senior outside hitter Mairin Guilfoyle of the University of Dallas paced the Crusaders this week with 46 kills and finished the Austin College Invitational with a career-high 19 kills and 20.0 points in a five-set loss to McMurry.
