MARY CARDONE OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, freshman goal keeper, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Tuesday, September 6th through Sunday, September 11th.
Cardone went 2-1 on the week and posted one shutout against Texas Lutheran with 7 saves/ She played all 90 minutes in each match.
Cardone posted a .067 goals against average and .778 save percentage for the week.
Cardone seeks to continue her good form between the posts this week as Southwestern play games against Centenary and Austin College on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defender Grace Auth of Austin College had a strong week, controlling the defensive back line in three matches while consistently marking each opponent's top scoring threats. Freshman defender Serena Gallegos of Centenary College scored her first collegiate goal, which proved to be the game-winner in the SCAC opener for a 2-1 victory at Austin College. Junior midfielder Julia Kelly of Trinity University scored her second game-winning goal of the season in the win over Claremont. Senior goalkeeper Erin Rose of Texas Lutheran University made three saves, including one from about five yards, in a shutout victory over Concordia.
