ABBY HOLLAND OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a freshman forward from Georgetown, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, January 1st.
Holland led the 18th-ranked Tiger women's basketball team to a pair of victories over the holiday break, including a home win against No. 15 George Fox.
Holland had double-doubles in both games, averaging 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest. She connected on 15-28 (53.6%) from the field and 4-8 (50%) from the free throw line, as well as contributing three steals and a block in both games.
Against Hanover on December 21, Holland collected a career-best 11 rebounds and connected on 9-18 from the field on her way to 19 points. In the win over nationally-ranked George Fox, Holland scored 15 points on 6-10 shooting, and pulled down 10 boards.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore guard Ann Savage of Austin College led Austin College to a 3-1 record over the holiday break, averaging 11.5 points, 4.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 53.6% from the field and 54.5% from three point range. Sophomore guard Jasmine Morris of Centenary College led Centenary in scoring while helping the Ladies best Rust on December 19 before tallying her third career double-double in the Ladies SCAC opener at Austin College. Junior forward Michelle DeCoud of the University of Dallas produced her 4th double-double of the season behind her highest scoring output this year (22 pts) in a 76-56 win at Blackburn College. Sophomore forward Tori Carraway of Southwestern University averaged 11.3 points in three games including a 12 point performance against #13 George Fox. Senior forward Savannah Hight of Texas Lutheran Unviersity averaged 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.7 assists per game as the Bulldogs went 2-1 over the Christmas break.
