MICAH WEAVER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY was selected the conference Newcomer-of-the-Year.
Weaver, a junior guard transfer from Texas A&M-Kingsville, made an immediate impact on the court for Trinity and is currently second on the team in scoring (15.3 points per game / fourth in the SCAC) and third in both rebounding (5.1 per game) and steals (2.0 per game / sixth in the SCAC) heading into this weekend’s conference tournament. The junior guard leads the league in the field goal percentage (55.5 percent) and is eighth in free-throw percentage (74.7 percent). She had a team-high six 20+ point scoring performances this season, including efforts of 24 and 20 points in the team’s final two games against Schreiner which locked up the regular season title for the Tigers. Weaver is just the third Trinity player, and first since Anecia Richardson in 2012-13, to earn SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year honors.
Weaver received seven votes from the league’s head coaches in earning Newcomer-of-the-Year honors. Sophomore guard Ann Savage of Austin College received the remaining first-place vote.
