STERLING HOLMES OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior guard from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for games played Monday, December 14th through Sunday December 20th.
Holmes averaged 25 points, seven rebounds and 3.5 assists in the Bulldogs' 1-1 week. Holmes had 27 points, six rebounds and two assists in a 92-86 loss to Illinois Wesleyan. He scored 23 points and had eight rebounds and five assists in an 82-81 win over Alma (Mich.). Holmes scored five points late in the win over Alma that put TLU in position for the victory.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward Stephen Igbinosa of Austin College had a big week to help Austin College stay undefeated, averaging 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks per game while shooting 66.7% from the field in a pair of victories. Sophomore forward Ryan Ogden of Southwestern University averaged a double-double this week, averaging 21.7 points and 11.3 rebounds through three games. Sophomore guard Nik Oakes of Trinity University led the Tiger men's basketball team to a 3-0 record at its Trinity Holiday Classic over the weekend, nabbing the team's first three wins of the season. Junior forward Wes Miller of Schreiner University helped lead the Mountaineers to a 2-1 week with 16.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, and 2.3 assists per game. Freshman guard Treylan Matthews of Centenary College broke his career highs in points in both games on the weekend.
