Roland Rodriguez, 2008 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Coach of the Year, is back for his fourth season as the Majors'
head softball coach in 2010 after guiding last year's team to a
15-22 overall record and its eighth straight conference tournament
appearance with a 7-7 SCAC record.
The SCAC's all-time winningest coach has compiled a career record
of 203-159 (.561) in nine seasons, including an astounding 82-26
(.759) record in league play. He's coached 42 All-Conference
selections and eight NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-Region selections
during his career, in addition to claiming four SCAC Championships
and four NCAA Playoff appearances.
In his first three years with Millsaps, Rodriguez has led the
Majors to a 47-62 overall record, including a 20-14 finish in 2008
with his first recruiting class. The Majors had a school-record
13-game winning streak that season en route to an 8-game
turnaround, finishing the year at second place in the conference
after a 1-0 loss to No. 1 DePauw.
He's coached 14 All-SCAC players alone at Millsaps in his first two
seasons; helping Jennifer McKinley (2007 and 2009) and Sam Hill
(2008) gain All-Atlantic Region honors.
Rodriguez came to Millsaps after six seasons as the head coach at
Trinity University – also a member of the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference – in San Antonio, Texas.
Rodriguez compiled a record of 156-97 (.617) during his six years
with the Tigers, helping TU win four SCAC championships and advance
to the playoffs four times, including their best regional finish of
third place in 2005. That season, the Tigers also enjoyed the
programs first ever Top 25 ranking in the NFCA’s final poll
as they ended the year ranked No. 19.
