Coach Wright has been named as the new head coach for the Schreiner Women's Basketball program.  For the past three years, he has served as the assistant coach under former head coach Matt Wallis.

During his three years at SU, Wright has helped build a strong foundation for the Schreiner program.  The Mountaineers have improved each year and have a solid core of returners coming back for the 2013-14 year.  The 2012-13 team set the school record (NCAA era) for wins in a season.  In each of his three years, SU has had one of the top three defenses in the rugged American Southwest Conference.  This season SU was ranked first in three-point defense and second in scoring defense.  At the same time, SU has consistently had one of the top GPA’s on campus and 11 student-athletes earned academic distinction in the Fall, 2012 semester.

Prior to coming to Kerrville, Wright was the assistant men's basketball coach for his alma mater, the University of Texas at Dallas. During his last season with the Comets, the team registered an overall record of 24-6 (.800).  Prior to beginning his coachinig career at UTD, he was a two-year starter at point guard (2007-09) for the Comets and led the team to the 2009 NCAA "Elite Eight" in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.  During his playing career at UTD, Wright was a part of one of the most successful collegiate programs in Texas. During his junior season, Wright ranked sixth on the team in scoring (7.4 ppg) while leading UT-Dallas to a 17-9 record and the ASC Quarterfinals. In his senior year, Wright became the leading scorer (12.1 ppg) and second leading rebounder (5.3 rpg) while leading the team to a school record 26 wins overall and his play earned the MVP award for the 2009 American Southwest Conference Tournament while leading the team to the championship.  He graduated in 2009 with a degree in History.  He earned his Masters in Education from Schreiner in 2012.  Prior to UTD, Wright starred at Clarendon College in Clarendon, TX for two years under head coach Tony Starnes.

During his coaching and playing career, Wright has learned from three coaches who are highly respected coaches and teachers of the game (UTD head coach Terry Butterfield. Starnes, Wallis).  He brings that knowledge to his new job and combines those skills with a tremendous work ethic, strong commitment to building positive relationships with his players and a commitment to their success both on the court and in the classroom.  His calm demeanor and friendly personality also help to create a very family-oriented atmosphere within the program.
