Marcus Whitehead is in his first season as Trinity’s head track and field coach.
Coach Whitehead served as a full-time Tiger assistant during the 2011-2012 academic year, after being a part-time coach the previous season.
He holds a Level 1 Coaching Certificate from USA Track and Field.
During his collegiate days, Coach Whitehead was a standout student-athlete at Southwestern Oregon Community College, and Eastern Washington University. Coach Whitehead earned a Bachelor of Arts in education and social studies from Eastern Washington in December 2007, where he was a member of the Dean’s List.
Coach Whitehead received numerous track and field honors at Eastern Washington, including that of team captain. He was a member of the NCAA Division I All-West Region 4x400-meter relay team, which set a school record.
At Southwestern Oregon, where he received an Associate of Art in general studies in June 2004, Coach Whitehead was a was an All-American in the 400 meters, as well as being a school record-holder. In addition, Coach Whitehead, a team captain, was a key member of the 4x400-meter relay record-holding unit.
Coach Whitehead earned a Master of Science in physical education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (emphasis in athletic administration) in May 2010. He supervised and managed physical education facilities, and taught numerous activity classes.
He was the sprints coach at Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nev., in 2008, where he coached two Class 4A state champion relay teams, and a Nevada champion 300-meter hurdler. Coach Whitehead’s Green Valley sprinters set five school records during his tenure. He later coached sprints and hurdles at Sierra Vista High School in Las Vegas, and assisted with the distance runners. The Sierra Vista sprinters established two school records with his guidance.
In addition to his track and field duties, Coach Whitehead will also assist the cross country program, as needed, during the fall season.
