MARKHAM
STAYTON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior
tight end on the Tigers' football team, has been selected the
SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for
the week ending November 13, 2011.
Stayton, who hails from Katy, Texas, is a
three-year letterman and a team captain, and has made the SCAC
Honor Roll each of his first three years as well as the Trinity
University Dean's List.
In addition to his work on the field, Stayton
organized a team trip to San Antonio's Sunshine Cottage School for
the Deaf, and also spoke to students at a local elementary school
on the value of education. Shortly after arriving on campus,
he began a Bibly study for the Trinity football team, and is
currently the treasurer for the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes.
Stayton serves as the football representative on
Trinity's Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and this past fall,
he was one of just 132 collegiate football players nominated for
the American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team - which
recognizes volunteerism and community service.
