SAL PERDOMO
OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore
on the men's track and field team from Irving, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Character & Community Male
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending March 6, 2011. Last
week, he was named SCAC Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week as he won
the 1,500 meter race at the Trinity University Open with a personal
best time of 4:04.98.
Away from the track, Perdomo is an Eagle
Scout and remains involved with his Youth Group back home in
Irving. He goes on a mission trip to El Paso, Texas, every summer
for a week to remodel homes for people who are not able to do so
themselves.
Along with some of his teammates, he has helped out at the San
Antonio Zoo Run for Kids (ages 3-12), serving as "rabbits" for all
the races so the kids would know where they were running. The races
were a half mile long and the course went through the zoo.
Perdomo has also volunteered with the
Sunshine Cottage, a school for deaf children. He monitored
students during Parent-Teacher Conferences and also helped run the
school's P.E. class.
In high school, Perdomo worked at Texas
Stadium in the press box, where his job title was, ironically,
a "runner." He delivered pages of statistics, quotes, and
other game material to the members of the press box, writers,
television and radio sports analysts, and coaches. Since he
did this in high school, Perdomo
was offered the opportunity to work Super Bowl 45 in
February as the Cowboys were serving as host.
Lastly, Perdomo is involved in the Hemisfair
Park Master Planning. Hemisfair Park is a huge fairgrounds just on
the southside of downtown San Antonio. In this capacity,
Perdomo is helping to figure out what
the city is plans on doing with this ground in the future.
