BELLE ASBURY OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Thursday, Ocotber 16 through Tuesday, October 21. It is the second conscutive week she has earned the honor. SCAC Golf Release (Week 6)
Asbury was the top SCAC individual finisher at the Hardin-Simmons/Abilene Intercollegiate, finishing tied for third with a two-round total of 158 (+16). Asbury fired back-to-back rounds of 79 (+8), with a pair of birdies and 20 pars, tied for the third most pars in the field. Asbury was best among the field in par four scoring, with a 4.32 scoring average.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomores Amber Shaw and Haylee Crowder of Centenary tied for 28th place at 30-over par 172 to lead the way for the Ladies at the Hardin-Simmons/Abilene Intercollegiate. Shaw shot rounds of 93-79 and Crowder went 87-85. First-year Andrea Juarez of Concordia (TX) posted a top-10 finish at the Hardin-Simmons/Abilene Intercollegiate to lead the Tornados to a sixth-place team finish. Juarez finished tied for 10th with a two-round total of 162 (+20) after posting rounds of 79 (+8) and 83 (+12). Senior Amber Alsup of Hendrix secured her second career individual medalist honors, leading the Warriors to a victory over Lyon in a dual. Alsup fired seven-over round of 79, highlighted by a birdie on 13. First-year Katelyn Henslee of McMurry anchored the War Hawks performance at the Hardin-Simmons/Abilene Intercollegiate; finishing tied for 13th. Henslee posted rounds of 83 (+12) and 81 (+10) for a two-day total of 164 (+22). Junior Abby Yanta of Schreiner posted a top-five finish to lead the Mountaineers to a third-place team finish at the Hardin-Simmons/Abilene Intercollegiate. Yanta finished tied for fifth after posting a 36-hole score of 159 (+16). She opened the tournament with an 83 (+12) before firing the second lowest final round of anyone in the field with a 76 (+4), vaulting five spots to finish in the top five. Yanta finished tied for the best in the field in par 5 scoring with an even par 5.00 scoring average and her three birdies on the week finished tied for fifth.
