Trinity Women Fifth in NSCAA Soccer Preseason National Rankings
KANSAS CITY, Kansas - Symbolizing the nearing of a new season, the NSCAA and Continental Tire have released the 2012 College Preseason Rankings for all three levels of the NCAA, the NAIA and the two levels of Junior College.
The Trinity University women's soccer team is ranked fifth in the 2012 preseason poll.
The Tigers went 22-1-0 a year ago - a season highlighted with a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at the end of the regular season and the program's seventh trip to the NCAA Playoffs in the last eight years. Trinity advanced to the Third Round of the playoffs in 2011, before being eliminated in a 1-0 double-overtime loss at Ithaca College.
Head Coach Lance Key was named the SCAC and NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year, and the team had two All-Americans to go with five All-Region performers.
Rising sophomore Emily Jorgens was named First Team All-Region, while junior Jennifer White earned Second Team All-Region honors. Senior Katie Garrett and sophomore Stephanie Segovia were selected to the All-Region Third Team. Jorgens was also chosen for the D3soccer.com All-America Third Team, and Segovia was the SCAC Newcomer of the Year in 2011.
Also returning for the Tigers are First Team All-SCAC honoreees senior Lindsay Euers and sophomore Kirby Peddicord. Sophomore Kelsey Falcone was a Second Team All-SCAC selection.
In the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III rankings, the national champions for both the men and women each lead the rankings. Ohio Wesleyan finished 2011 with a 23-2-0 overall, while Messiah went unbeaten in 2011 with a 23-0-1 mark.
