JAMES SAPP OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior forward from Shongaloo, La., has been named the SCAC Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, January 29th.
Sapp helped the Gents pick up a big road win over Texas Lutheran this week, as the team went 1-1.
Sapp recorded his fourth 30+ point game Friday night, while narrowly missing out on a double-double with nine rebounds. He followed that performance with his 11th double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds against the Bulldogs.
Through the weekend, Sapp averaged 25.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Brian Baehl of Austin College averaged 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting 50% from the field last weekend. Junior forward Blake Kelley of Schreiner University helped lead the Mountaineers to a 2-0 week with 13.5 points and seven rebounds per game. These wins gave Schreiner to top spot in the conference standings. Senior guard Ben Stiver of Southwestern University averaged 18 points per game while shooting 57.1% from the field to extend the Pirates win streak to five. Senior guard Sterling Holmes of Texas Lutheran University averaged 16.0 points, five assists and six rebounds per game in the Bulldogs' 1-1 week. Junior guard Matt Jones of Trinity University led the Tigers to a sweep over the weekend with 12.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
