Southwestern's Shea, TLU's Powell, and Trinity's Kennemer Named SCAC Football Players-of-the-Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Colten Shea of Southwestern, Ethan Powell of Texas Lutheran, and Matthew Kennemer of Trinity were named SCAC Player-of-the-Week for the first week of the SCAC football season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 7

 

COLTEN SHEA OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a 5-10, 185-pound freshman receiver from Georgetown, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 7.
 
Shea scored the first touchdown in 63 years for first-year football program Southwestern. He scored on catches of 68-yards and 40-yards and finished the night 9 catches for 258 yards and averaged 28.7 ypc (9 yards shy of SCAC record for receiving yards).

He also had six returns for 109 yards finishing the night with 367 all-purpose yards, setting a single-game SCAC record for all-purpose yards. Shea broke a mark set by Walter Arrington of Birmingham-Southern who had 358 yards in 2009 against Millsaps.


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior running back Bryce Murphy of Austin College had 22 carries for 161 yards and three touchdowns in a 24-21 overtime. Senior quarterback Brent Peavy of Texas Lutheran went 32-for-45 with four touchdowns and two interceptions and also rushed for 53 yards in a win over Southwesttern. Trinity tight end Sam Horford of Trinity caught three passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns in a 47-29 win over Howard Payne.

 



SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 7

 

ETHAN POWELL OF TEXAS LUTHERAN, a 6-2, 230-pound sophomore defensive lineman from Florence, Texas has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 7.

Powell recorded 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack and six total tackles in the Bulldogs' 44-14 win over Southwestern.

Powell has two solo tackles and four tackle assists. His tackles for loss totaled seven yards. Powell's sack went for three yards.


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive lineman Tre Stewart of Austin College recorded a team-best 10 tackles, including two solo stops, and had 1.0 tackle for a loss of three yards in the season opener against Rhodes College.. Trinity defensive lineman Tomy Boboy of Trinity racked up six tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble in a 47-29 win over Howard Payne Southwestern did not nominate anyone.

 

 

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 7

 

MATTHEW KENNEMER OF TRINITY, a 5-11, 185-pound sophomore kicker, punter, kick returner, and punt returner from Friendswood Texas., has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 7.

Kennemer continued to lead Trinity's special teams efforts in a variety of ways, pushing the Tigers to a 47-29 victory over Howard Payne to open the season.

Kennemer finished the game with 124 all-purpose yards, 50 yards punting, and connected on 4-of-5 extra points for the Tigers. He had 100 yards on just two kickoff returns, highlighted by a 72-yard return that would been a 97-yard touchdown except for a penalty. Kennemer also picked up 24 yards on his lone punt return of the game


Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Austin College, Southwestern, and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone.
