MICHAEL SCHIMPF OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior outfielder from Shreveport, La., has been named the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, March 19th.
Schimpf had another outstanding week at the plate, recording multiple hits, two RBI and at least one run scored in each of the Gents games last week. This marks his third Offensive Player of the Week award and the sixth for Centenary this season.
Schimpf hit .700 for the week, tallying six RBI and five runs. In Saturday's first game against Schreiner University he went 3-for-5 from the plate, with all three hits going for extra bases.
Schimpf was also walked four times over the weekend and stole two bases.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior catcher Gus Daniel of Austin College collected nine hits, including seven in the weekend series against Dallas, with a batting average of .692, an on base percentage of .765, and a slugging percentage of .923. He also had three doubles, scored four runs, and collected six RBI. Sophomore outfielder Jordan Stickler of the University of Dallas batted .700 in the three-game conference set (7-10), which included a perfect 5-for-5 on Sunday that helped the Crusaders win 14-3. Stickler also scored three times, drove in two, and stole a pair of bases in the victory. Senior utility player Ben Little of Southwestern University hit .500 (9 for 18) with three doubles, a triple, a homer and seven RBIs to help the Pirates to a 4-0 record last week, including a win over No. 5 UT-Tyler. Sophomore infielder Thomas Varner of Texas Lutheran University led the Bulldogs to a 4-0 record last week by hitting .529 with a slugging percentage of .765 and an on-base percentage of 619. In the non-conference game against Blackburn, he drove in four runs with three hits. In the three-game SCAC sweep of Trinity, Varner belted three doubles and six hits in 14 at-bats (.429).
