CHRIS ZAPATA OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior outfielder from Shreveport, La., has been named the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Monday, March 13th. It is the second consecutive week that Zapata has earned the honor.
Zapata had another great weekend, going 5-for-12 with two home runs and 10 RBIs (and at least one RBI in all three games) as Centenary swept Austin College to open SCAC play.
He had a total of six RBIs alone in the series finale, beginning with a three-run home run in the first inning of game one. Zapata has already posted a league-high 36 RBIs for the season, 11 clear of a trio of teammates.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior utility infielder Ben Little of Southwestern hit .600 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI last week for the Pirates. Junior outfielder Matthew Lemon of Texas Lutheran keyed a Bulldog doubleheader sweep Sunday of University of Dallas by hitting .571 and driving in three runs. He doubled in each of the wins and went 4-for-7 overall. He also walked one and had a steal. He posted an on-base percentage of .625 and a slugging percentage of .857. Senior outfielder Scott Walters of Trinity led the Tigers in taking two-of-three in a conference weekend series at Southwestern. Walters finished the weekend with a .333 batting average, going 4-12 at the plate with three runs and three RBI in the three games. In the second game of the series, Walters broke a Trinity record with five stolen bases in one game. He stole twice in the first and twice in the third inning, prior to the game being delayed for two days. After the game resumed on Monday, he broke the record with a steal in the eighth. Walters was 2-4 with two runs scored in the game.
