MICHAEL SCHIMPF OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior outfielder from Shreveport, La., has been named the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday February 26th.
Schimpf had at least one hit, one RBI and a run scored in all four games for the Gents this week.
The Gents swept Rust College, outscoring the Bearcats 80-5 over the stretch. Schimpf went 8-for-9 at the plate, recording seven runs, 10 RBI and one stolen base.
Schimpf recorded two doubles and triple for the series, leading to a 1.333 slugging percentage.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore outfielder Ben Benavides of Schreiner University went 5-for-6 on the weekend, with two hit by pitches, a walk and scoring five runs. Sophomore short stop Thomas Varner of Texas Lutheran University hit .636 with fives runs scored, and RBI and an on-base percentage of .714. Senior outfielder Scott Walters of Trinity University posted a .364 batting average while collecting at least one hit in each game.
