In that same balloting, Taylor Barrett of Sewanee-The University of the South was selected as the conference’s Freshman-of-the-Year and Hendrix College head coach R.J. A two time SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week in 2009, Hawkins is the ninth different player from Millsaps to win the league’s Offensive Player-of-the-Year. It is the eleventh overall OPOTY award for a Millsaps player. Hawkins is the fifth straight Major to win the league’s OPOTY award joining Garner Wetzel (2005, 2006) and Hunter Owen (2007, 2008).

Solomon, a sophomore right-hander from Austin, Texas, is the fifth Trinity player to win the league’s Pitcher-of-the-Year award. He posted a 5-1 record while also posting a 1.09 WHIP (walks+hits/IP). In just one appearance at the 2009 Baseball Championships, Solomon did not allow an earned run in 5.2 innings pitched, striking out three and scattering six hits in his only post season outing. He is the first Trinity player named Pitcher-of-the-Year since 2005 when Brock Hewitt was awarded the league’s top pitcher award.

Barrett, a first-year right fielder from Murfreesboro, Tenn., hit .407 in his inaugural season with the Tigers (fifth in the SCAC) and led Sewanee in hits (50), runs (38) and walks (16). He also tied for the team lead in home runs (2), doubles (8) and stolen bases (8). Barrett posted a .537 slugginer percentage to go a long with a .493 on base percentage. The .493 on base percentage was the third highest in the league.
