Trinity Leads Five SCAC Members Ranked in Final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Trinity University finished the year in 31st place to lead five SCAC institutions ranked in the prestigious 2017-18 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup final standings. Complete Standings

Trinity has amassed 475 points in the standings on the strength of its four NCAA appearances in the fall, three appearances in the winter and four appearances in the spring. The Tigers placed ninth in men's tennis, 17th in women's tennis, 38th in men's track and field and 72nd in women's' track and field.

Colorado College has 211 points and finished in 93rd place with a ninth place finish in women's lacrosse and a 17th place finish in men's lacrosse this spring. Texas Lutheran University is close behind with 190.50 points, earning all of it in the spring. The Bulldogs earned a national runner-up finish in the Division III World Series, and took 17th in the softball championship. TLU also earned a 27th place finish in men's track and field and 72nd in women's track and field.

Southwestern University ended in 186th place with 98 points, adding 48 this spring after a 26th place finish in the men's golf championship.

Schreiner University rounds out the SCAC teams represented, sitting in 281st place with 25 points from their men's basketball tournament berth.

Williams took the top spot in Division III at the completion of the year with 1126.50 points. The Ephs have a 125-point lead over second-place MIT (1001.50), while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps represents the west region in third place with 939.50 points.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. 

To date, all 13 spring NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: baseball - UT-Tyler; women's golf - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps; men's golf - Methodist; women's lacrosse - Gettysburg; men's lacrosse - Wesleyan (CT); women's rowing - Bates; softball - Virginia Wesleyan; women's tennis - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps; men's tennis - Middlebury; women's track and field - Massachusetts Boston; men's track and field - Mount Union; men's volleyball - Springfield; women's water polo - USC.
