The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.
The senior midfielder, a native of Spring, Texas and a graduate of Klein High School, has lettered two seasons with the Bulldogs after spending her first two years of college and collegiate soccer at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
“My two years here have been amazing,” said Wicklund. “The environment and everyone is just a huge family - not just my soccer team but everyone in the whole entire school, but the team especially.”
In her less than two years at TLU, Wicklund has wasted little time in getting involved and becoming a leader on campus. In addition to being a senior leader on the Bulldogs’ women’s soccer team, Wicklund is a student athletic trainer, president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), president of the Kinesiology Club, and the alumni chair of the TLU Athletic Training Club.
“Honestly I’m trying to get as much done here as I can while I am the SAAC president,” said Wicklund, an athletic training major. “We want to get our whole entire athletic community involved not only in the TLU community but in the NCAA as a whole.”
As a student athletic trainer, Wicklund interacts with a variety of TLU’s intercollegiate teams and student-athletes.
“I get to be involved with every single sports team, not just my own,” said Wicklund. “I get to know them and make an impact through the whole entire program.”
“The (athletic training) program is great. It is definitely hard, but we are all a family. The preceptors are on our side, and they are there to help us whenever we need it, but they definitely give us an autonomous feel where they let us do as much as we can on our own. They back us up when we need it.”
The Bulldogs just celebrated Senior Day with Wicklund and sent out their senior leader with a 3-0 victory Sunday over Austin College. TLU went 2-0 over the final home soccer weekend of 2017 with victories over Centenary College and Austin.
“It’s bittersweet,” said Wicklund after her final home match. “I love soccer, and it will always be a part of me. I want to continue coaching and helping out in the fitness world for sure. I love TLU, and I will be back for games.”
